The house is situated
in the Vendee region of Western France with the Atlantic on its Western
Coast, La Rochelle to the South and Nantes and Brittany to the North. Steeped in history from the french revolution, this area has become very popular with the french in recent years who holiday at the splendid coastal towns, leaving the inland towns and villages calm and quiet so they still reflect the gentile vendeen way of life.
The region offers some very diverse landscapes with the rolling hills of the Bocage to the north, the rivers, lakes and valleys to the east near Vouvant and Mervent, to the flat unbroken horizons of the arable plains just south of Fontenay le Comte. The protected area of the Marais Poitevin is also just south/south-east of Fontenay with the idyllic Venice Verte that is interlaced with canals and tributaries, where you can hire small boats and explore this emerald gem.
